Williams family treasures

Treasures – Jane (Roberts) Williams (1826-1916)

Photographs and history kindly supplied by Robyn Williams.

This cup and saucer was given to Elizabeth Ann (Mutch) Williams by her mother-in-law, Jane (Roberts) Williams, when Thomas and Elizabeth visited England in 1913. Jane had been governess to the children of a well-to-do Wirral family, and they spent some time in Germany – with Jane accompanying them. It was said the family gave Elizabeth the Dresden tea set as a memento of the 1913 visit.

The cup and saucer was passed on to Audrey (Williams) Chamberlain, grand daughter of Elizabeth. The information came from Audrey as she heard it – not otherwise verified – except that Wirral local history does record well to do local families visiting Germany.

The cup was smashed when Audrey was moved out of her Aged Care unit into a high care ward. It was passed on to Robyn, whose conservator colleagues restored it.
